Jaroslav Bán na EGT

Tento týždeň (6. – 10. novembera) sa aj na EGT nesie v znamení vedy a techniky, preto sa náš utorkový Chapel zaoberal vzťahom vedy a kresťanskej viery. Prednáškou na túto tému nás 7. novembra 2017 obohatil Ing. Jaroslav Bán, Csc, ktorý pôsobí ako starší člen na Columbijskej Univerzite v New Yorku v rámci Inštitútu pre experimentálnu fyziku v CERNe. Zaoberá sa hlavne vývojom elektroniky pre vysoko energetické fyzikálne experimenty.
Porozprával nám niečo o viere a vede v jeho živote a poukázal na hlavné koncepty, s ktorými sa pri riešení vzťahu vedy a kresťanskej viery stretneme. Načrtol nám kam tieto koncepty môžu viesť, a ako najrozumnejší vzťah medzi vedou a kresťanskou vierou predstavil vzťah ich komplementarity (vzájomného dopĺňania sa) v popisovaní sveta okolo nás.
Kým veda popisuje fungovanie procesov v tejto realite, nedáva nám odpovede na otázky prečo to tak funguje a aký je zmysel našej existencie. Zakončil to citátom od Alberta Einsteina, ktorý to výstižne vyjadruje: „Veda bez náboženstva je chromá, náboženstvo bez vedy je slepé.“

Najrýchlejší spôsob prezerania obrázkov na dotykovom displeji: ťuk na posledný obrázok, potom ťukaním prezeranie obrázkov sprava doľava!

As we follow the science and technology week at EGT this week, our chapel on Tuesday, November 7th, 2017, dealt with the topic of the relationship between science and Christian faith. The lecture on this topic was given by Jaroslav Bán, an engineer working for Columbia University, NY, as a senior staff associate, for IEP (Institute of Experimental Physics) and for CERN, mostly on electronics for high energy physics experiments built around the world.
He told us something about faith and science in his life and presented basic concepts we encounter in dealing with the relationship between the Christian faith and science. Showing us the dangers each of these concepts might lead to, he presented the complementary relationship of science and the Christian faith as the most reasonable and logical. While science describes how all the different processes around us work, it doesn’t answer the questions of why they work, or what the meaning of our existence is.
He finished with Albert Einstein's quote, which summarizes it well: “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."
